Emily Bush: Success story from The Hatchery Summer Incubator

Emily Bush

Meet Emily Bush, rising junior studying Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology in the College and founder of Science & Health Early Education Program. The program aims to address deficits cognitive development and education due to resource disparities in children from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds through developing a free, volunteer-based supplemental education program for disadvantaged children in Atlanta.

"By having a hands-on, interactive, and positive environment for them to build a strong educational foundation, we are addressing the main areas of concern for learning deficits."

Emily and her team have partnered with the Atlanta Children’s Shelter to design and implement a science and health early learning program for children at the shelter which involves bi-weekly volunteer visits to introduce science experiments and other supplemental STEM activities. The program's goal is to spark children’s interest in STEM pathways at an early age while also helping them develop essential cognitive, linguistic, and social skills to set them up for future success in their education.

The team piloted their STEPS summer program at the Atlanta Children’s Shelter and will be expanding operations in the fall with a semester-long curriculum in addition to piloting a kindergarten program.
