Labs

The Hatchery is home to onsite labs that give you tools, lessons, and spaces for prototyping, experimentation, and sharing. We are home to Proto and Little Devices @ Emory led by Jose Gomez-Marquez. Both are building blocks designed to support your journey to creating objects that we can hold in our hands. They will shape how we learn, how we create impact in the world, and how we accelerate a culture of experimentation.

Proto

Proto is a design clinic for exploring early ideas in devices and emerging technologies. You can borrow tools from our lending library, experiment at your own pace, and build first drafts of smart devices or design futures artifacts. It is a collaborative space where students from any background learn hands‑on skills and try bold object ideas.

Little Devices Lab @ Emory

The Little Devices Lab develops DIY health technologies that empower patients and providers to invent solutions at the front lines of care. Born at MIT and active in many countries, the lab builds accessible systems such as modular diagnostics, portable labs, and tools for medicine in extreme environments. Students and partners can join as collaborators, clinicians, or researchers.
