The Hatchery names innovation programming and operations manager

The Hatchery, Emory Center for Innovation is proud to announce that Ben Garrett has been named innovation programming and operations manager.

Garrett’s passion and experiences center on the creation and sustainability of nonprofits and social enterprises. He has been a first hire, facilitator, consultant and coach for dozens of social entrepreneurs. These roles have afforded him the opportunity to lead strategic planning retreats, raise funds from individuals and institutional grantmakers, invent a cryptocurrency, explore experimental pedagogies, and more.

At The Hatchery, Garrett will work to optimize the physical space, material and other resources to increase facility use and student engagement while improving learning outcomes; help to develop and operationalize new programs and curricula at the crossroads of student experience and innovation; and serve as the resident expert and coach in innovation and design thinking.

Garrett brings a wealth of relevant experience to the role.  Previously, he worked with Acumen as a facilitator for their university-focused social enterprise accelerator and as a community animator for their global online Community of Social Innovators. He also worked with The Civic Accelerator (founded as a Points of Light Program and acquired by Acumen), an early player in the social enterprise accelerator and investment industry. Prior to his time in the social impact space, Garrett worked with multiple community development nonprofits in both Atlanta and Chicago.

Garrett holds a BA in Philosophy and Religion from Samford University and a MDiv from the University of Chicago.
